The Davis Mountains State Park is located 4 mi (6.5 km) north of Fort Davis. This area allows for lots of recreational activities including camping, hiking, camping and bird watching, among others. Monahans Sandhills State Park The Monahans Sandhills State Park is home to 3,840 acres (1554 ha) of sand dunes. There is an interpretive center, shaded picnic areas and sand tobogganing, horseback riding and other activites to do at the park. Camping sites are available. Pets are allowed, but must be kept on a leash and cannot go in any buildings.

Big Bend National Park encompasses more than 801,000 acres (324,000 ha) of land in the very western tip of Texas. The park is 35 mi (56 km) from Terlingua, running along the Rio Grande and the Mexican border. There are lots of things to do and see, including camping, hiking, birdwatching, boating, visiting the historical towns Castolon and Rio Grande Village, and soaking in the hot springs.

Balmorhea State Park gives vistors the opportunity to swim, scuba dive and skin dive in the San Solomon Springs. The park is also home to a restored cienega, or desert wetland, where many endangered fish and birds can be found. There is an outdoor sports area, a picnic site and a concession (summer only). The park has 44 picnic sites with shaded roofs, tables and barbeque grills for day use. There are some basic tenting sites as well as five RV sites for campers. None of them have water or electricty.
