    Davis Mountains State Park

    The Davis Mountains State Park is located 4 mi (6.5 km) north of Fort Davis. This area allows for lots of recreational activities including camping, hiking, camping and bird watching, among others. An interpretive center can be found in the park. This State Park is home to the Indian Lodge, which was built in the 1930s and is operating today.

    Iraan City Park
    The Iraan City Park is home to Discovery Well A No.1 - the reason for the town's existance. Oil was discovered here in the 1920s, and this particular site became one of the highest producing wells in America. More details are at the site.

    Guadalupe Mountains National Park
    Guadalupe Mountains National Park is home to one of the world's most impressive displays of a Permian limestone fossil reef, as well as to Texas' highest spot: the Guadalupe Peak.     Hueco Tanks State Historical Park

    Seminole Canyon State Park & Historic Site

    Seminole Canyon State Park & Historic Site is located in Val Verde County, just west of Comstock. Hiking, camping, mountain biking and historical study are among the activities offered at the park. Visitors have the chance to take guided tours that showcase American Indian rock paintings.

    Big Bend Ranch State Park

    Big Bend Ranch State Park contains the oldest mammal fossils in Texas. The park is set in the Chihuahuan Desert with the Rio Grande running through parts of it. There are lots of hiking and sightseeing areas, and camping spots are available.

    Monahans Sandhills State Park
    The Monahans Sandhills State Park is home to 3,840 acres (1554 ha) of sand dunes. There is an interpretive center, shaded picnic areas and sand tobogganing, horseback riding and other activites to do at the park. Camping sites are available. Pets are allowed, but must be kept on a leash and cannot go in any buildings.

    Big Bend National Park

    Big Bend National Park encompasses more than 801,000 acres (324,000 ha) of land in the very western tip of Texas. The park is 35 mi (56 km) from Terlingua, running along the Rio Grande and the Mexican border. There are lots of things to do and see, including camping, hiking, birdwatching, boating, visiting the historical towns Castolon and Rio Grande Village, and soaking in the hot springs.

    Balmorhea State Park

    Balmorhea State Park gives vistors the opportunity to swim, scuba dive and skin dive in the San Solomon Springs. The park is also home to a restored cienega, or desert wetland, where many endangered fish and birds can be found. There is an outdoor sports area, a picnic site and a concession (summer only). Tours and camping are available. There are restrictions on pets. No lifeguards are on duty at the springs.

    Kokernot Field and Park
    The Kokernot Field has many facilities to offer users, including a swimming pool, a baseball field, a trail and many picnic areas. In the summer the Theatre of the Big Bend puts on outdoor shows for spectators in the park. It holds 1,400 people.

    The Chamizal National Memorial

    This memorial was established to recognized the peace treaty between the United States and Mexico concerning boundary issues. The memorial is part of a 55-acre (22-hectare) park with an outdoor amphitheater, a museum and a gallery.

    El Paso Tin Mines
    Located in Franklin Mountain State Park are what remains of the only tin mines in the States. There are trails leading to the sites, which can be found on the east side of the North Franklin Mountain.

    Franklin Mountains State Park

    Franklin Mountains State Park allows for activities such as mountian biking, rock climbing, hiking and horseback riding. The park has 44 picnic sites with shaded roofs, tables and barbeque grills for day use. There are some basic tenting sites as well as five RV sites for campers. None of them have water or electricty. No ground fires are permitted.

    Ascarate Lake City Park
    This is a 400 acre municipal park featuring a 44 acre manmade lake. Swimming is not permitted in the lake but there is a nearby Olympic sized swimming pool, and fishing on the lake is accepted.
